Louisville WR Spillman charged with DUI

Jul 4, 2008 - 9:11 PM LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Louisville wide receiver JaJuan Spillman has been charged with his second DUI arrest in 18 months, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Friday

According to the newspaper, Spillman, 21, was arrested just after midnight on Friday morning after he was pulled over because his license plate was not illuminated. The Courier reported that he also was charged with possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and having no insurance.

Spillman's latest arrest comes with Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe on a family vacation in Mexico and could end his career with the Cardinals.

"We are aware of JaJuan's situation," Louisville spokesman Rocco Gasparro told the Courier said. "JaJuan's situation will be addressed when coach Kragthorpe returns later in the week."

A junior, Spillman was suspended for the second half of last season for undisclosed reasons. He was reinstated after the season and participated in the Cardinals' spring practice.

In January of 2007, Spillman was arrested for DUI following a car accident near the Louisville campus. In that incident, police found 9.3 grams of marijuana in his career.

That DUI charged was dropped because police could not prove he had been drinking before the accident. However, he pleaded guilty to the possession charge and was ordered to pay a $100 fine and attend drug counseling.

Last season, Spillman caught nine passes for 64 yards and rushed four 42 yards. He also averaged 22.2 yards on 18 kickoff returns.
