Kansas State coach Prince gets new deal

Aug 7, 2008 - 10:17 PM MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Kansas State head football coach Ron Prince has agreed to a new five-year contract that runs through the 2012 season, the school announced Thursday.

The deal will pay Prince $1.1 million annually in guaranteed money and could be worth up to $10.25 million based on incentives.

"I am very appreciative of the commitment that the university has shown to our organization," Prince said. "The administration has proven its long-term commitment to us as a program as evident in the current facility expansion and other projects that are essential for sustained success."

Prince, 38, coached the Wildcats to a 5-7 record last season, including a 3-5 mark in the Big 12 Conference.

The highlight of Kansas State's 2007 campaign came on September 29, when the Wildcats rolled to a stunning 41-21 rout of then-No. 7 Texas in Austin. It was the first road victory against a top-10 team in the program's history.

A former assistant at Virginia, Prince has a 12-13 record in two years at Kansas State. He guided the Wildcats to an appearance in the Texas Bowl following the 2006 season.

"We feel that we are on schedule with our plan of building a fast, tough, strong and disciplined program and are looking forward to this season and many seasons to come," Prince said.

"We are pleased with the direction of our football program under the leadership of Ron," athletic director Bob Krause said. "He has a plan in place and is right on course with that plan, and this new contract provides one additional year on top of the additional year he earned by leading the Wildcats to a bowl in his first season."
