Washington QB Locker expected to miss six weeks

Sep 29, 2008 - 4:45 PM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Washington Huskies are still searching for their first win of the season, and now they will be without starting quarterback Jake Locker for more than a month.

Locker broke his right thumb in Saturday's 35-28 loss to Stanford that dropped the Huskies to 0-4. He suffered the injury midway through the second quarter when he hit his thumb on Stanford safety Sean Wiser while attempting to throw a block on a reverse.

Prior to the injury, Locker had accounted for nearly 70 percent of Washington's offense, which is now in the hands of redshirt freshman Ronnie Fouch.

Huskies coach Tyrone Willingham provided no specific details on how long Locker will be sidelined. According to the Seattle Times, however, the junior is expected to be out for six weeks.

The injury is more bad news for Willingham, whose job appears to be in jeopardy. Saturday's loss dropped his record to 11-29 in his three-plus seasons at Washington.

Fouch played well in relief of Locker, completing 13-of-27 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown, but Washington's defense allowed nearly 500 yards.

The Huskies play at Arizona on Saturday.
