Arizona State QB Carpenter questionable for USC game

Oct 6, 2008 - 10:48 PM TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter is questionable for Saturday's contest against Southern California with a sprained left ankle.

The injury puts Carpenter's streak of 36 consecutive starts in jeopardy.

"First of all, we need to get the OK from the doctor, and then, see how he moves out there," Sun Devils coach Dennis Erickson said. "I'm not going to put him on the field unless he has the mobility to be able to move and throw. He has to be pretty close to 100 percent.

"We won't know anything about that until time goes on, so it's really at the point that it really doesn't need to be discussed until we see how he progresses in the next three days. Knowing Rudy, he's tough, and if he plays, it's because he is tough."

A senior, Carpenter passed for 1,348 yards and eight touchdowns with four interceptions this season.
