Washington State QB Lobbestael out for season

Oct 13, 2008 - 11:14 PM PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Washington State's dismal season just got worse.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Marshall Lobbestael tore his left anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in Saturday's 66-13 loss to Oregon State and will miss the remainder of the the season, the Seattle Times reported Monday.

The Cougars (1-6) have been hit hard by quarterback injuries all season and Lobbestael started the previous three games after Gary Rogers and Kevin Lopina both went down against Portland State on September 20.

Rogers suffered a season-ending cervical spine fracture that did not require surgery and Lopina sustained a deep bruise on his left shoulder.

According to the Times, Lopina is expected to start Saturday's Pac-10 Conference contest against fourth-ranked Southern California.
