Oklahoma DE English sidelined with knee injury

Nov 3, 2008 - 8:44 PM NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Oklahoma defensive end Auston English is expected to miss three weeks after spraining his left knee in last week's 62-28 victory over Nebraska.

The preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in sacks last season, English suffered the injury in the third quarter Saturday and did not return.

"We're disappointed for Auston," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday. "He's been a great leader for us, tough player, excellent player. He had an excellent game the other night, but you have to go on."

English has 4 1/2 sacks and 27 tackles this season for the fourth-ranked Sooners (8-1), who play at Texas A&M on Saturday.

English's career at Oklahoma has been plagued by injuries. He missed three games last season with a hairline ankle fracture and missed preseason practice this year after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
