Alabama, Florida 1-2 in AP poll

Nov 23, 2008 - 8:29 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Alabama and Florida, the top two teams in the Southeastern Conference, were ranked first and second in the latest Associated Press college football poll released Sunday.

The last remaining undefeated team from a BCS conference, Alabama (11-0) received 63 out of a possible 65 first-place votes and 1,622 overall points.

The Crimson Tide, who were idle this weekend, will close their season next Saturday against rival Auburn.

Florida (10-1) climbed one spot to second and received the other two first-place votes. The Gators will face the Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game in Atlanta on December 6.

Oklahoma (10-1) moved up two spots to third after crushing then-No. 2 Texas Tech, 65-21, on Saturday night.

Texas (10-1) and Southern California (9-1), both idle this weekend, were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Penn State (11-1) moved up one spot to sixth after clinching a Rose Bowl berth with a 49-18 rout of Michigan State on Saturday.

The Red Raiders (10-1) fell to seventh, followed by undefeated Utah (12-0), which secured a BCS bowl bid with a 48-24 victory over rival Brigham Young on Saturday night.

Undefeated Boise State (11-0), which won the Western Athletic Conference title Saturday courtesy of a victory over Nevada, is ninth while Ohio State (10-2) rounded out the top 10.

Oklahoma State (9-2) is 11th, followed by Missouri (9-2), Georgia (9-2), TCU (10-2), Ball State (11-0), Cincinnati (9-2), Oregon State (8-3), Georgia Tech (8-3), Oregon (8-3) and Boston College (8-3).

BYU (10-2) dropped four spots into a tie for 20th with Boston College while Michigan State (9-3) fell five places to 22nd.

Florida State (8-3), Northwestern (9-3) and Mississippi (7-4) all were new to the rankings this week at 23rd, 24th and 25th, respectively.
