Texas QB McCoy looking for feedback on draft

Nov 28, 2008 - 4:54 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas quarterback Colt McCoy said he will file paperwork following the conclusion of the season to receive feedback from an NFL advisory regarding his draft potential.

A month ago, McCoy insisted that he wanted to be a four-year quarterback for the Longhorns, although now he seems a bit less sure.

By filing the paperwork, he will not forfeit his senior eligibility.

Following Thursday's 49-9 rout of Texas A&M, McCoy told the Dallas Morning News that he wants to find out where he stands in the draft.

"I think it would be foolish not to look at it like that," he told the newspaper. "But at the same time, I want to play four years here. Not very many people have had the opportunity to do that. That's something that's real special to me and important to me."

McCoy is a top contender for the Heisman Trophy and is threatening the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage. He has completed 77.6 percent of his passes for the fourth-ranked Longhorns, who capped an 11-1 regular season Thursday.

However, the 6-3, 210-pound McCoy has not been rated as a top pick in next year's draft.

He said the only thing that would change his mind about returning to Texas is if he were projected as a first- or second-round pick.

"You have to weigh everything," he said. "You have to weigh coming back for your senior year and playing with your teammates and your coach and your best friends. I think that's something that's really hard."
