Alabama, Florida remain 1-2 in AP poll

Nov 30, 2008 - 11:27 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Alabama and Florida, who will face off in next week's SEC championship game, remained atop the latest Associated Press college football poll, which was released Sunday.

The undefeated Crimson Tide (12-0) retained the No. 1 spot and received 62 out of 65 first-place votes.

Second-ranked Florida (11-1) was given the other three first-place votes and 1,516 overall points - 104 less than the Crimson Tide.

Alabama will look to preserve its perfect record and earn a berth in the BCS championship game next Saturday when it faces the red-hot Gators in Atlanta for the SEC title.

With a win over the Crimson Tide, Florida also would likely secure a spot in the national title game.

Texas (11-1) climbed one spot to third in Sunday's poll, followed by Oklahoma (11-1) and Southern California (10-1).

Penn State (11-1) is sixth while Utah (12-0), Texas Tech (11-1), Boise State (12-0) and Ohio State (10-2) rounded out the top 10.

TCU (10-2) climbed three spots to 11th, followed by Ball State (12-0), Cincinnati (10-2), Oklahoma State (9-3), Georgia Tech (9-3), Oregon (9-3), Georgia (9-3), Boston College (9-3), Missouri (9-3) and Brigham Young (10-2).

Michigan State (9-3) is 21st while Mississippi (8-4), Pittsburgh (8-3), Northwestern (9-3) and Oregon State (8-4) completed the poll.
