Kentucky QB Cobb has knee surgery

Dec 2, 2008 - 9:48 PM LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Kentucky quarterback Randall Cobb underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

Wildcats head coach Rich Brooks said that Cobb will not practice for the next few weeks. Brooks also was not optimistic regarding the freshman's status for Kentucky's upcoming bowl game.

"This will take a little longer rehabilitation than some of the cartilage repairs we've had in the past," Brooks said. "He won't practice for two to three weeks. I wouldn't rule him out, but he looks to be doubtful to play in the bowl game."

Cobb suffered the injury in Saturday's 28-10 loss to Tennessee. The freshman has done it all offensively for the Wildcats, playing wide receiver and returning punts in addition to starting the last four games at quarterback.

Kentucky expects to move sophomore quarterback Mike Hartline back to the starting spot. Hartline started the Wildcats' first eight games this season, completing 55 percent of his passes for 1,462 yards and eight touchdowns.

The versatile Cobb has completed 53 percent of his passes for 542 yards and five TDS, totaled 316 yards rushing and seven TDs and pulled in 21 catches for 197 yards and two more scores.
