Oklahoma QB Bradford undergoes surgery

Dec 8, 2008 - 3:23 AM NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- One day after leading top-ranked Oklahoma to a berth in the BCS national championship game, Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford underwent surgery on his non-throwing hand.

Bradford, who tore ligaments in his left hand in Oklahoma's regular-season finale against Oklahoma State two weeks ago, experienced no complications during the 90-minute procedure and attended a team function Sunday night.

The redshirt sophomore is expected to miss 10 days of practice, which would allow him to return well in advance of the Sooners' game against No. 2 Florida on January 8 that will decide the national championship.

Oklahoma (12-1), which captured its third straight Big 12 Conference title with a 62-21 rout of Missouri on Saturday, will not practice this week.

The injury did not cause any problems Saturday for Bradford, who completed 34-of-49 passes for 384 yards and two touchdowns as Oklahoma became the first team in NCAA history to score 60 or more points in five straight games.

A leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, Bradford leads the Football Bowl Subdivision with 48 touchdown passes.
