Fulmer to work with Tennessee's president
Dec 8, 2008 - 9:48 PM KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Phillip Fulmer may have been forced out as Tennessee's football coach last month, but he is not ready to turn his back on his alma mater.Fulmer accepted a job Monday as a special assistant to Tennessee president John Petersen, although the school did not specify what his role will be.
The second-winningest coach in the program's history, Fulmer resigned under fire on November 3. At the time, Volunteers athletic director Mike Hamilton said he hoped the former coach would remain at Tennessee in some capacity.
Fulmer, who posted a 152-52 record at Tennessee, has been associated with the school for more than 30 years as a player, assistant coach and head coach.
However, Fulmer, still only 58, has expressed a desire to coach again at another school.
No one has shouted yet.
