Texas Tech QB Harrell wins Golden Arm Award

Dec 9, 2008 - 1:19 AM LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell on Monday was named the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner, a honor bestowed upon the nation's top senior quarterback.

The most prolific passer in Texas Tech history, Harrell is the first Red Raiders quarterback to win the award.

Harrell is second all-time in the NCAA with 15,429 career passing yards. He will accept the honor on Friday at the Tremont Grand Meeting & Banquet Facility in downtown Baltimore.

"I want to thank the Johnny Unitas Foundation for this incredible honor," said Harrell, who has thrown for 4,747 yards with 41 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games this season.

"To be mentioned in the same breath with this true legend of football is very special for me, my family and my teammates. This award wouldn't be possible without the support of my family and everyone at Texas Tech. Hopefully this honor will shine some light on the great things our football program has achieved and how special it is to be a Red Raider."

Harrell and the Red Raiders (11-1) will face Ole Miss (8-4) in the Cotton Bowl on January 2.
