Report: Mullen to take Mississippi State job
Dec 10, 2008 - 7:24 PM JACKSON, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen is expected to be named Mississippi State's next football coach, the Clarion-Ledger is reporting. In his fourth season as Florida's offensive coordinator, Mullen also worked under current Gators coach Urban Meyer at Utah as the Utes' quarterbacks coach.
His prized pupil at Utah was Alex Smith, the NFL's No. 1 draft pick in 2005. Mullen also helped develop Florida quarterback Tim Tebow into last season's Heisman Trophy winner.
Mullen would replace Sylvester Croom, the first African-American head football coach in Southeastern Conference history, who resigned on November 29 after five seasons at Mississippi State.
It is uncertain if Mullen will coach Florida in the Gators' BCS national championship game against Oklahoma on January 8.
