Towson hires UConn offensive coordinator Ambrose

Dec 28, 2008 - 12:04 AM TOWSON, Maryland (Ticker) -- Rob Ambrose, who has spent the past four seasons as Connecticut's offensive coordinator, was officially named as the new head coach at Towson on Saturday.

Ambrose signed a five-year contract to return to Towson, where he spent nine seasons as an assistant.

"Being named as the fourth head coach in Towson football history is a tremendous honor for me," Ambrose said. "All three of my predecessors are legends and men that I admire. It's with great humility that I follow in their footsteps.

"I am so thankful to be part of this program's past and I am grateful to be part of the future. I can't wait to come back home and get started."

Ambrose oversaw an offense at Connecticut that finished second in the Big East and 22nd nationally in rushing.

At Towson, Ambrose will replace longtime coach Gordy Combs, who guided the Tigers to a 3-9 record this past season.
