Western Michigan, Cubit agree to contract

Dec 31, 2008 - 1:17 AM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Western Michigan coach Bill Cubit agreed to a new five-year contract with the university on Tuesday prior the team's contest against Rice in the Texas Bowl.

Cubit, who would have entered the final year of a four-year contract in 2009, is 29-19 in four seasons with the Broncos. He will earn $375,000 a season in base salary and public, radio and television appearances.

"Western Michigan football has had enormous success during the four years Bill Cubit has been our head coach and we are so very proud and excited to announce that he will be leading our Broncos into the future with the signing of this new contract," WMU athletic director Kathy Beauregard said.

The Broncos will attempt to secure the first 10-win season in program history against the Owls.
