BC not commenting on Jagodzinski's job status

Jan 5, 2009 - 10:30 PM CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Boston College has refused to speculate on the job status of football coach Jeff Jagodzinski, who reportedly has drawn interest from the New York Jets.

According to multiple reports, Jagodzinski has been told he will be fired if he interviews for the vacant Jets job, which opened last week when Eric Mangini was let go after three seasons.

The school issued a statement on the situation Monday.

"The Boston College Athletics Department is fully aware of the speculation concerning the position of the head football coach. It would be inappropriate for the University to comment further at this time."

ESPN reported that despite the school's threat, Jagodzinski plans to interview with the Jets on Monday night or Tuesday.

While not considered to be a leading candidate for the Jets' vacancy, Jagodzinski has ties to New York quarterback Brett Favre from their days together with the Green Bay Packers.

Jagodzinski was the Packers' tight ends coach from 1999-2003 and the club's offensive coordinator in 2006 before he took over at BC.

In two seasons at Boston College, Jagodzinski has compiled a 20-8 record, guiding the Eagles to a pair of ACC Atlantic Division titles.
