NC State QB Wilson doesn't need knee surgery

Jan 6, 2009 - 6:46 PM RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson will not need surgery to repair his torn knee ligament, the school announced Tuesday.

Wilson suffered a torn PCL and a sprained knee late in the second quarter of the Wolfpack's 29-23 loss to Rutgers in last week's Papajohns.com Bowl.

Rather than undergo surgery, the redshirt freshman will be "confined to several weeks of limited activities, followed by functional rehabilitation."

The ACC Rookie of the Year, Wilson passed for 1,955 yards and 17 touchdowns while running for 388 yards and four scores in 11 games this season for North Carolina State (6-7).

Wilson was intercepted only once in the entire season and finished the campaign with a streak of 249 passes without a pick, the longest active streak in the country.
