Florida State DE Brown to enter draft

Jan 7, 2009 - 8:06 PM TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Florida State defensive end Everette Brown will not be sticking around for his senior year.

Brown on Wednesday announced he will bypass his final season and enter the NFL draft in April.

"In making my decision I took everything into account, but my final decision was made based on what was wise for me at this point in my life," Brown said.

A redshirt junior, the 6-4, 252-pound Brown registered 13 1/2 sacks and 21 tackles for losses this past season for the Seminoles, who capped a 9-4 season with a 42-13 victory over Wisconsin in the Citrus Bowl.

Brown, who had a sack and forced a fumble in his final game for Florida State, thanked his parents for their support in his decision.

"They did not only teach me how to be a great football player but also how to be a great man," he said. "I came into the program as a boy and I am now leaving as a man."

As a sophomore, Brown started eight games and led the Seminoles in sacks with 6 1/2. He finished his career with 23 sacks.

"My primary personal goal ... is to be the best defensive player of the 2009 draft," said Brown, who projects as a linebacker at the next level.
