Patterson agrees to extension with TCU
Jan 8, 2009 - 6:07 PM FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) -- TCU football coach Gary Patterson agreed to a contract extension Thursday which will keep him at the school through 2014.Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Patterson - the dean of Mountain West Conference coaches - guided the Horned Frogs to an 11-2 record and a win over Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl on December 23.
Patterson is 73-27 in eight seasons at TCU, and has won at least 10 games five times in that span - including four 11-win campaigns in the last six years. No other coach in school history has more than two 10-win seasons.
The Horned Frogs were 11th in the final regular-season BCS standings.
"Gary's outstanding record speaks for itself, and we want him to be in Fort Worth and at TCU for a long time," TCU athletic director Danny Morrison said.
"The fact that his contract extensions over the years have been agreed upon with regularity illustrate the momentum in the program and his commitment to this university and community."
A former defensive coordinator, Patterson's Horned Frogs led the nation in total defense (217.8 yards per game).
"I am very appreciative of Chancellor (Victor) Boschini, Dr. Morrison and the TCU administration for providing the resources and support to have a football program that makes TCU proud," Patterson said.
"My family and I have found a home at TCU and in the Fort Worth community."
