Appalachian State QB Edwards has surgery

Jan 15, 2009 - 9:14 PM BOONE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards was one of five players to undergo arthroscopic surgery, the school announced on Thursday.

Edwards, who led the Mountaineers to an 11-3 mark this past season in the FCS, was one of four players to have knee surgery.

Defensive tackle Malcolm Bennett and offensive linemen Corbett Harris and Chris Marshall all had injured knees scoped at Watauga Medical Center.

All four are expected to take three to four weeks to recover.

Edwards completed 196-of-306 passes for 2,902 yards with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games this season. He and the Mountaineers stunned the college football world two years ago when they beat then-No. 5 Michigan, 34-32, at the "Big House."

The school also announced defensive lineman Daniel Finnerty underwent arthroscopic procedure in Charlotte, North Carolina to correct a shoulder injury.
