Redskins become lottery team, unveil scratch-off
Jun 8, 2009 - 7:32 PM ASHBURN, Va.(AP) -- The Washington Redskins are a lottery team, albeit one with no pingpong balls to worry about. The Redskins and the Virginia Lottery on Monday unveiled a $20 scratch-off ticket featuring the team's logo, taking advantage of a new NFL rule that allows teams to sign licensing deals with state-sponsored lotteries.
The Redskins went all out for the announcement, displaying their three Super Bowl trophies in a news conference setting usually reserved for big player signings.
The ticket has a top prize of $1 million, and second-chance prizes include season tickets for 20 years and a chance to travel with the team to an away game against the Dallas Cowboys. The tickets go on sale Aug. 3, shortly after the Redskins open training camp.
No one has shouted yet.
