Packers re-sign DE Jenkins to four-year contract

Feb 26, 2007 - 10:45 PM GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- The Green Bay Packers plan to make defensive end Cullen Jenkins a cornerstone of their defense.

Jenkins signed a four-year contract on Monday, four days before he was eligible to become a restricted free agent.

Used at both tackle and end, Jenkins recorded a career-high 6 1/2 sacks this past season. He started the last three games of the campaign at right end and had three sacks in a 17-9 win over Detroit on December 17.

Jenkins, 26, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Packers in 2003, but was cut and played in NFL Europe before coming back to Green Bay in 2004. He totaled 7 1/2 sacks in his first two seasons.

Jenkins is the younger brother of Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.

The Packers are not expected to re-sign Ahman Green, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on Friday. Green rushed for 1,059 yards and five touchdowns this past season.
