Eagles TE Smith has surgery for sports hernia
May 31, 2007 - 8:49 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Philadelphia Eagles tight end L.J. Smith underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia.Smith, who caught 50 passes for 611 yards and five touchdowns in 2006, will not take part in the team's upcoming practices scheduled for June 5-14. His progress will be monitored over the coming weeks to determine his availability for Eagles' training camp, which opens for veterans July 30.
Smith's best season was 2005, when he had 61 receptions for 682 yards and three touchdowns. He was named a second alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2006.
