Patriots dole out coaching responsibilities
May 10, 2012 - 10:40 PM Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots announced position responsibilities for the 2012 season for several current coaches, and two new additions to the staff on Thursday.Matt Patricia has been tabbed as defensive coordinator, Josh Boyer will guide the cornerbacks, Brian Flores will coach safeties, Patrick Graham will take control of the defensive line and Pepper Johnson will head up the linebacking corps.
Offensively, George Godsey will coach the tight ends.
In addition, Joe Judge has been named special teams assistant and Steve Belichick, son of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, has been named a coaching assistant.
Patricia will enter his ninth season in the NFL and served as the Pats' linebackers coach for the past five seasons (2006-10). Boyer will begin his seventh NFL season after three seasons as the defensive backs coach.
Flores originally joined New England as a scouting assistant in 2004 and will enter his fifth season on staff. Graham was the defensive line coach in 2011 and will enter his fifth year in the NFL.
Johnson enjoyed a 13-year playing career as a linebacker with the New York Giants, Jets, and the Cleveland Browns and will begin his 13th season on staff with New England.
Godsey joined the Pats in 2010 as an offensive assistant coach, while Belichick walked on to the Rutgers University football team as a long snapper in 2011.
Judge joins New England after a three-year stint as a football analyst at the University of Alabama under head coach Nick Saban.
