Pair of rookies highlight NFC weekly winners
Dec 5, 2012 - 7:29 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson and St. Louis' greenhorn kicker Greg Zuerlein made up two-thirds of the NFC's top Week 13 performers.Wilson earned the offensive award after completing 23-of-37 passes for 293 yards and rushing for 71 yards, the most by a quarterback in franchise history, in Seattle's 23-17 overtime win at Chicago. Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Golden Tate with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Seahawks a 17-14, and after the Bears' Robbie Gould forced overtime, he hit Sidney Rice for the game-winning score.
The special teams award went to Zuerlein, who kicked a 53-yard field goal at the end of regulation and drilled a 54-yarder in overtime as the Rams stunned San Francisco, 16-13. Zuerlein has made seven field goals of at least 50 yards this season, one shy of the league's single-season record held by Morten Andersen (1995) and Jason Hanson (2008).
Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore garnered the defensive honor after compiling a game-high 11 tackles and two interceptions in the Falcons' 23-13 victory over New Orleans.
