Ravens bring in Canty
Mar 13, 2013 - 5:14 PM Owings Mills, MD (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Ravens and veteran defensive lineman Chris Canty agreed to terms on a three-year contract, team general manager Ozzie Newsome announced on Wednesday.Canty arrives with eight years of NFL experience, having played for the New York Giants the past four seasons after spending his initial four with the Dallas Cowboys.
"Chris is a good player and an upgrade for our defense," Newsome stated of the 6-7, 317-pounder. "We've seen that in our study, and he has also played very well against us. We like the fact that he is coming from a winning franchise that recently won the Super Bowl with his help. Plus, he can help us at both end and tackle."
The former fourth-round pick out of Virginia was limited to just nine games because of injury during his last season in New York, finishing with 26 tackles and three sacks.
Over the course of his career, however, Canty has made 95 starts in 113 games and has recorded 297 tackles and 19 sacks. He helped the Giants to a victory in Super Bowl XLVI.
The Ravens also came to terms with two of their own players, reaching one-year contracts with running back Damien Berry and restricted free agent guard/tackle Ramon Harewood.
