Falcons agree to terms with Umenyiora
Mar 28, 2013 - 1:25 AM Flowery Branch, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with defensive end Osi Umenyiora on a two-year contract on Wednesday.Financial terms were not disclosed, but NFL.com reported that the deal is worth $8.5 million -- including $5 million guaranteed -- with a maximum value of $12.2 million.
Last season, the 31-year old Umenyiora played in all 16 games with four starts for the New York Giants and had 55 tackles, six sacks and one forced fumble.
Umenyiora, who lives in Atlanta, had spent his entire 10-year career with the Giants, who selected him in the second round in the 2003 NFL Draft. A two-time Super Bowl Champion and two-time Pro Bowl selection, Umenyiora has 430 tackles, 75 sacks and 31 forced fumbles over 129 career games.
"There was nothing better than to be able to win (in New York)," Umenyiora said in a radio interview last week. "The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta. We'll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction."
The 6-foot-3 Troy product also set an NFL record with 10 forced fumbles in 2010 and a Giants' franchise record for sacks in a single game with six, set in 2007 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
