New England Patriots 2013 NFL Draft Review
Apr 30, 2013 - 1:59 PM (Sports Network) -2 (52) - Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Mississippi; 2 (59) - Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall; 3 (83) Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers; 3 (91) - Duron Harmon, S, Rutgers; 4 (102) - Josh Boyce, WR, TCU; 7 (226) - Michael Buchanan, DE, Illinois; 7 (235) - Steve Beauharnais, ILB, Rutgers
Top Picks Analysis: The Patriots weren't all that enamored with the talent in this draft and traded out of the first round, accumulating four picks from Minnesota in the process. Bill Belichick used the first of those picks to snare an edge-rushing prospect in Collins. Dobson is a raw vertical threat at wide receiver, while Ryan and Harmon are Rutgers defensive backs joining Devin McCourty in the Pats' back seven.
Best Value Pick: Boyce is a solid, physical receiver who projects well outside the numbers. He might have gone higher if it wasn't for a foot injury.
Questionable Calls: Harmon is a big, physical safety but most viewed him as a late-round pick or priority free agent. Even if Belichick is seeing something everyone else isn't, he could have gotten him much later and that defines a bad pick.
Summary: Belichick was content to go with the pitch in this draft and shoot for singles or doubles. The back of his baseball card says he's got a pretty good batting average so you almost have to give him the benefit of the doubt but nothing jumps out at you here.
Final Grade: C+
Undrafted rookie free agent signings: Louisiana Tech P Ryan Allen; Tennessee FB Ben Bartholomew; Missouri OT Elvis Fisher; Clemson TE Brandon Ford; South Florida DT Cory Grissom; Akron RB Quenton Hines; Rutgers CB Brandon Jones; Kent State OL Josh Kline; Missouri WR T.J. Moe; Penn State CB Stephen Morris; Nevada TE Zach Sudfeld; Penn State C Matt Stankiewitch; Cincinnati WR Ken Thompkins
