Chiefs ship CB Arenas to Cardinals
May 1, 2013 - 6:39 PM Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Chiefs traded cornerback Javier Arenas to the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday in exchange for fullback Anthony Sherman.A second-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2010 draft, Arenas made a career-high nine starts last season and finished the year with 60 tackles and eight passes defensed. The 25-year-old was not expected to challenge for a starting job this season, however, after Kansas City added veteran corners Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson through free agency.
Arenas also gives the Cardinals experience in the return game, having averaged 9.9 yards per punt runback and 21.0 yards on kickoffs over his three NFL seasons. He led the AFC with an average of 12.8 yards per punt return in 2011.
Sherman made the Cardinals as a fifth-round pick in 2011 and served as the club's primary fullback the past two seasons, but Arizona wasn't planning on utilizing the position as much under new head coach Bruce Arians. The Connecticut product recorded 13 catches for 111 yards during his time with the team.
