Rolando McClain retires from NFL
May 15, 2013 - 5:59 PM Owings Mills, MD (Sports Network) - Linebacker Rolando McClain has decided to call it a career after just three seasons in the NFL.McClain signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens on April 12, but his off-field problems continued when he was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge 10 days later.
"Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "We have placed him on the reserve/retired list."
The 23-year-old was released by Oakland on April 5 following a disappointing and turbulent three-year tenure with the Raiders, who selected the ex-Alabama star with the eighth overall selection of the 2010 draft. McClain was suspended for two games late last season after clashing with head coach Dennis Allen, then was declared an inactive for Oakland's final three contests.
McClain did start nine of the 11 games he played in during 2012 and recorded 62 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He set career bests with five sacks and 99 stops while making 14 starts the previous year.
In 41 career games with the Raiders, McClain had 246 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and one interception.
