Eagles sign QB Barkley
Jun 13, 2013 - 8:14 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday announced the signing of their fourth-round draft pick from April's NFL Draft, quarterback Matt Barkley. The only player the Eagles have yet to agree to terms with is first-round pick -- fourth overall -- offensive tackle Lane Johnson.
Barkley, who signed a four-year rookie deal, enjoyed a standout career at the University of Southern California.
The Eagles traded up to select Barkley with the first pick of the fourth round (98th overall) after the gun-slinger was projected as a top-five draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but opted to return to USC for his senior season.
Barkley was considered one of the top overall players in college football after the 2011 season in which he threw for 3,528 yards with 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He led the Trojans to a 10-2 record, which included a shocking late-season win against current Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's Oregon Ducks. The school, though, was ineligible for conference and postseason play to due NCAA violations.
Over the course of his senior season last year, he threw for 3,273 yards and 36 touchdowns versus 15 interceptions, but the Trojans, the preseason overall No. 1 team in the FBS, finished with a disappointing 7-6 record.
No one has shouted yet.
