Redskins land WR DeSean Jackson
Apr 2, 2014 - 5:10 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - DeSean Jackson spent just days on the market after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles.Jackson has agreed to a three-year deal with the Washington Redskins that will keep him in the NFC East, according to reports by ESPN.com and NFL.com.
Jackson was released by the Eagles last Friday after six seasons on the same day a report on NJ.com raised questions about his off-field behavior.
The wide receiver seemed to confirm the news on Twitter with a message that referenced the Redskins' colors.
"ITS GOIN DOWN !! BURGUNDY & GOLD," the Tweet read.
Jackson is coming off a career year with the Eagles. He posted 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns under first-year head coach Chip Kelly.
The California product will be under the guidance of yet another first-year head coach in 2014 in Jay Gruden.
With the addition of Jackson, the Redskins formed one of the more dynamic receiving duos in the NFL. Jackson will join Pierre Garcon, who is also coming off a career-year. He posted a career-high 113 catches and 1,346 yards and also scored five touchdowns.
According to reports, Philadelphia released Jackson for character and attitude problems. The NJ.com story mentioned alleged gang connections, allegations Jackson vehemently denied.
"I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang. I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values," Jackson said in a statement released shortly after the report was released.
"I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true. I look forward to working hard for my new team. God Bless."
Under 87 career games with the Eagles, Jackson has 356 catches for 6,117 yards and 32 touchdowns.
