Jets release no-show RB Goodson
Jun 18, 2014 - 6:21 PM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets released running back Mike Goodson on Wednesday after he failed to show for the first two days of mandatory minicamp. The Jets signed Goodson as a free agent to a reported three-year, $6.9 million contract last offseason but he played in just two games for them after sitting out a four-game suspension over banned substances and tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee.
He was indicted in November on two weapons charges stemming from a traffic stop in New Jersey last May.
Jets general manager John Idzik called the situation "disappointing."
"But I think we, in good conscience, gave Mike every opportunity here and we'll do that with all of our players," Idzik said in an interview on the team's official website. "Unfortunately in this case it didn't work out."
Goodson had seven carries for 61 yards in his two games with the Jets. He has rushed for 783 yards and three touchdowns in 42 games for New York, Oakland and Carolina since the Panthers drafted him in the fourth round in 2009.
No one has shouted yet.
