Panthers release WR Underwood
Aug 24, 2014 - 6:35 PM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers released wide receiver Tiquan Underwood on Sunday. It was the ninth time Underwood has been released since entering the NFL in 2009 as a seventh-round pick by Jacksonville.
The Panthers signed Underwood in the offseason with the hope of replacing Ted Ginn Jr. as the No. 3 receiver and kick returner. But a disappointing training camp and preseason led to his release.
Underwood has caught 63 passes for 1,006 yards and six touchdowns in 45 career games with the Jaguars, Patriots and Buccaneers.
Carolina also waived wide receivers Toney Clemons, Marvin McNutt and Kealoha Pilares, punter Jordan Gay, defensive tackle Linden Gaydosh, defensive ends Alex Hall and Craig Roh, offensive tackle Oscar Johnson and linebacker Anthony Morales.
The Panthers now have 79 players on the roster. The team must cut four more players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to reach the 75-man limit for the first roster reduction.
