Dolphins LB Wheeler ruled out vs. Patriots

Sep 5, 2014 - 10:50 PM Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Miami Dolphins linebacker Philip Wheeler will not play in Sunday's season opener against the New England Patriots because of an injured thumb.

Wheeler, who started all 16 games for Miami last season, did not practice on Friday after being limited each of the previous two days. He hasn't missed a game since 2011.

Center Mike Pouncey (hip), linebacker Jordan Tripp (chest) and defensive end Terrence Fede (knee) had already been ruled out for the game.

Guard Billy Turner (foot) practice on a limited basis Friday but is doubtful to play against the Pats.

Safety Walt Aikens (hand), linebackers Chris McCain (hip) and LB Koa Misi (shoulder) and cornerback Jamar Taylor (hip) are all probable to play.
