Redskins reinstate Meriweather

Sep 16, 2014 - 8:51 PM Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Redskins placed Brandon Meriweather back on the 53-man roster Tuesday after the veteran safety completed serving his two-game suspension for an illegal hit.

The NFL handed Meriweather, a 13-game starter for Washington last season, the season-opening ban for a shot he gave to Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith in a preseason game on Aug. 23. The two-time Pro Bowl selection drew a personal foul penalty for forcible contact to a defenseless player on the play.

Meriweather was also suspended one game last season for a pair of illegal hits during a game against Chicago in October.

The eighth-year pro, who recorded 69 tackles, two interceptions and one sack in 2013, is expected to start Sunday's game at Philadelphia.

Safety Bacarri Rambo was waived to make room on the active roster.

A sixth-round pick of Washington in 2013, Rambo started three games as a rookie but managed just two tackles through the first two weeks of this season.
