Gates highlights AFC's top players

Sep 17, 2014 - 5:30 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones and Buffalo Bills running back/kick returner C.J. Spiller have been selected as the AFC's top players for Week 2 of the NFL season.

Gates, the offensive player of the week, had seven catches for 96 yards (13.7 average) and three touchdowns in San Diego's 30-21 win against Seattle. His three touchdowns equaled his career-high and were the most among AFC players in Week 2.

The defensive player of the week, Jones had eight tackles and two sacks and blocked a field goal that he returned for a touchdown in New England's 30-7 win at Minnesota. Jones helped limit the Vikings to 217 total net yards.

Spiller, the special teams player of the week, returned two kickoffs for 122 yards, including a career-long 102-yard touchdown, in Buffalo's 29-10 win against Miami. He also rushed for 69 yards on 12 carries, including a 47-yard run.
