Bucs OC Tedford takes medical leave

Sep 23, 2014 - 9:59 PM Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team as he continues to deal with a medical issue.

Tedford had been working on a limited basis through the season's first three weeks while recovering from his procedure, which NFL.com reported to be a coronary angioplasty that was performed in August.

The Buccaneers' offense has been problematic without Tedford calling plays over the team's initial three games -- all losses. Tampa Bay currently ranks 30th in total yards and last in passing yards, while quarterback Josh McCown has thrown four interceptions.

Tampa Bay mustered a paltry 217 total yards and 10 first downs with quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo operating as the primary play-caller in Thursday's 56-14 shellacking by Atlanta.

Arroyo will collaborate with the rest of the Bucs' offensive staff to form game plans during Tedford's absence.

Tedford, who served as the head coach at the University of California from 2002-11, was hired as Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator in January.
