Status of Giants QB Manning remains uncertain

Sep 14, 2007 - 8:03 PM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The status of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning still is uncertain.

New York coach Tom Coughlin on Friday said he still needs to hear from the "medical people" but added that Manning's bruised right shoulder appears to be improving.

"(Manning) seemed to throw the ball pretty good (on Friday). But that is not for me to judge. That's for others," Coughlin said. "If you really watch closely, he did the smart thing. He loosened up pretty good and started to get into the velocity throws a little bit later on."

A decision on whether to start Manning on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers likely will be made at the last minute.

Manning suffered the injury in last weekend's season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Initial reports that he could miss a month were wide of the mark.

Jared Lorenzen will start if Manning is unable to play.
