Rex Ryan: Bills will 'build a bully'
Jan 14, 2015 - 6:25 PM Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rex Ryan was full of energy and passion during his introductory press conference as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills.Ryan made his presence felt immediately on Wednesday.
"Is this thing on?" he asked, tapping the microphone, "because it's getting ready to be on, and that's the truth."
It didn't take long for the former New York Jets coach to get the passionate Bills fans fired up.
"I'm not going to let our fans down. I'm not going to do that," Ryan said. "I know it's been 15 years [since Buffalo reached the playoffs]. Well, get ready. We're going."
The Bills have not reached the playoffs since 1999. They finished 9-7 this past season, their first winning record since a similar mark in 2004.
Ryan is a defensive-minded coach, having spent four seasons as defensive coordinator in Baltimore before taking the job with the Jets.
"We are going to build a bully and we're gonna see if you want to play us for 60 minutes," Ryan said.
Ryan comes to Buffalo after six years with the Jets. He was fired after a 4-12 mark this past season and guided the Jets to a record of 46-50 during his tenure.
The Bills' opening for a head coach was created when Doug Marrone stepped down on Dec. 31.
