Report: McCoy agrees to 5-year, $40 million deal with Bills

Mar 8, 2015 - 5:23 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills are set to give former NFL rushing champion LeSean McCoy the big payday he wanted.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Sunday that McCoy and the Bills have agreed to a new five-year contract that will start once the star running back is officially traded to Buffalo by the Eagles.

Philadelphia will get linebacker Kiko Alonso in the trade that was reported last week. The deal cannot be formally completed or announced until the 2015 league season begins Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

McCoy had three years worth $25 million remaining in his existing deal with only $1 million of his $10.25 salary for 2015 guaranteed. With his new contract, the first year is guaranteed for $16 million and he will get a total of $26.5 million guaranteed of $40 million overall.

The Bills possibly wanted to keep McCoy happy after rumors surfaced that he was "unhappy" with his new destination.

McCoy, 26, was explosive in Chip Kelly's hurry-up offense, rushing for 2,926 yards and 14 touchdowns with 80 receptions for 694 yards and two scores over the past two seasons.

He led the NFL in both rushing yards and yards from scrimmage in 2013 but saw a dropoff in both categories last season.

McCoy set the Eagles' all-time career rushing record during the 2014 season. He gained 6,792 yards and scored 44 touchdowns on 1,461 carries in 90 games for the franchise, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
