Jets complete Marshall trade, release Harvin
Mar 10, 2015 - 9:43 PM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets acquired veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, while simultaneously releasing oft-injured wideout Percy Harvin. The Bears received a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2015 draft, while giving the Jets a seventh-round selection.
Marshall, a nine-year veteran, racked up 721 yards and eight touchdowns on 61 catches last season. It was the first time since his rookie season that he failed to crack the 1,000 yard mark.
This will be Marshall's fourth team since being drafted by Denver in the fourth round in 2006. The five-time Pro Bowl selection has 773 career receptions for 9,771 yards with 65 touchdowns for Denver, Miami and Chicago.
The Jets acquired Harvin from Seattle in October in exchange for a conditional 2015 pick, which would have been a fourth-rounder had he remained on the roster. The Seahawks will instead receive a sixth-round selection in the upcoming draft.
Harvin made only a moderate impact following the trade, recording 29 catches totaling 350 yards and one touchdown in eight games, and was due a $10.5 million salary had he not been cut.
One of the league's most versatile players when healthy, Harvin has had trouble staying so over the course of his six-year career. He played in just one regular-season game with the Seahawks in 2013 due to a hip procedure and missed seven contests while with the Minnesota Vikings the previous season.
No one has shouted yet.
