Texans send Fitzpatrick to Jets

Mar 11, 2015 - 9:52 PM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets have acquired quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Houston Texans.

Though the Jets did not provide additional details about the trade, ESPN reported earlier Wednesday that the Texans will receive a conditional 2016 draft choice based on playing time. The Jets also will be on the hook for the remaining $3.25 million on Fitzpatrick's contract.

Fitzpatrick played in 12 games last season for the Texans, completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 2,483 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

In 97 games since entering the league in 2005, Fitzpatrick has completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 19,273 yards with 123 TDs and 101 picks.

The deal reunites Fitzpatrick with new Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. The two worked together with the Buffalo Bills from 2010-12, when Gailey was then the head coach. Fitzpatrick threw for at least 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns in each of those three seasons.

New York also officially announced the signing of cornerback Buster Skrine, who will join Darrelle Revis in the Jets' revamped secondary.

Skrine started 31 games for the Cleveland Browns over the past two seasons and recorded 36 passes defensed over that period, the third highest total in the league during that stretch. The 25-year-old added a career-best four interceptions in 2014.

ESPN reported on Tuesday that Skrine will receive $25 million on a four-year contract, with $13 million of that total guaranteed.

A fifth-round pick of the Browns in the 2011 draft, Skrine has compiled 235 tackles, six interceptions and 49 passes defensed over 64 games.
