Jets fined $100K for Johnson's Revis comment
Apr 28, 2015 - 8:21 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets were fined $100,000 by the NFL over a public comment team owner Woody Johnson made about star cornerback Darrelle Revis that the league considered a violation of its anti-tampering policy. Two NFL spokesmen confirmed the fine Tuesday to SportsNetwork.com.
Revis, who became a star with the Jets over six seasons from 2007-12, returned to the team last month on a reported five-year, $70 million contract.
He was still under contract with AFC East-rival New England in December when Johnson said during a season-ending news conference that he'd "love Darrelle to come back," prompting the Patriots to file a tampering charge with the NFL.
The New York Daily News, which first reported the Jets' fine on Tuesday, said the NFL would not punish the Patriots over a tampering charge the Jets filed, also about Revis. That charge was made after Patriots owner Robert Kraft made comments about the cornerback last month.
