Report: Packers sign TE Lee to four-year extension

Nov 5, 2007 - 11:12 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Green Bay Packers' tight end Donald Lee has taken on a greater role the last month due to the knee injury suffered by Bubba Franks.

The Packers reportedly rewarded the 27-year-old Lee on Monday with a four-year contract extension, according to the Milwaukee Journal.

The newspaper reported that the deal is worth just under $12 million.

Lee's current contract, which paid him a base salary of $1.475 million for the past three years, was set to expire at the end of the season.

"Donald Lee is a young man that has totally bought into the offseason program," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's been very consistent. I can't say enough about him and his production in the first eight games."

Lee is tied with James Jones for fourth on the team in receptions with 29 and ranks fourth in receiving yards with 382.

Franks has been sidelined since aggravating a right knee injury against Washington on October 14.

The Packers rallied for a 33-22 victory at Kansas City on Sunday and reached the midpoint of the season tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the best record in the NFC at 7-1.
