Williams to return to Dolphins in 2008

Jan 3, 2008 - 8:32 PM MIAMI (Ticker) - The Miami Dolphins will renew the contact of running back Ricky Williams for 2008, The Miami Herald reported on its web site Thursday.

According to the report, the troubled running back's agent wrote an e-mail to the newspaper indicating that Williams has received a letter from newly-hired Dolphins executive vice president Bill Parcells informing him of the decision.

Leigh Steinberg also wrote that Williams is doing well in his rehabilitation from a torn pectoral muscle, which ended his 2007 season.

Williams suffered the injury in his season debut on November 26 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He carried the ball six times for 15 yards before leaving the game.

Scheduled to make $730,000 next season, Williams returned to the NFL this year after being reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell following an 18-month suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The Dolphins also made news earlier Thursday when they announced the firing of head coach Cam Cameron, who went 1-15 in his first season with the team.
