Injuries KO Titans' receivers
Jan 3, 2008 - 9:55 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Tennessee Titans' receiving corps took another hit Thursday when Roydell Williams was lost for the season with a broken right ankle.Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Williams was undergoing surgery Thursday on the ankle, which he injured during practice one day earlier.
Williams is tied for the team lead with 55 receptions.
The news comes on the heels of Tennessee placing tight end Bo Scaife on injured reserve with an injury to his liver. Scaife is the Titans' third-leading receiver.
The injuries leave Tennessee with a depleted unit heading into Sunday's AFC wild card matchup at the San Diego Chargers.
"It's a challenge. We've got a number of starters that we started the season with that are out," Fisher said. "You just move on. You have younger players that have to step up and take advantage of the opportunities."
The Titans already lost another wideout, Brandon Jones, to a season-ending groin injury and have ongoing issues at quarterback.
Vince Young suffered a right quadriceps injury in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Indianapolis Colts.
Fisher said Young split time on the field with Kerry Collins, who replaced Young against the Colts and directed the team to three field goals in the 16-10 victory.
