Gould signs five-year extension

May 12, 2008 - 8:15 PM LAKE FOREST, Illinois (Ticker) -- Robbie Gould did not want to leave Chicago, and now he won't have to.

One of the game's most consistent kickers, Gould on Monday signed a five-year extension that will keep him under contract with the Bears through the 2013 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed for Gould, who was entering the final year of his existing contract.

"I'm really excited," said Gould, who signed with the Bears as an undrafted rookie out of Penn State in 2005. "I'm excited to stay in the city of Chicago and to be a Chicago Bear. T his is one of those opportunities that's once-in-a-lifetime and life-changing, and I'm just excited to have it."

Gould, 26, is the Bears' all-time leader in field goal field percentage among kickers with at least 50 attempts. In his three seasons with Chicago, he has converted 84.9 percent of his field goals (84-of-99).

Gould has missed just one of his 100 extra-point attempts and has 351 career points.

"I'm excited that my hard work has paid off, but I'm definitely not done working hard and making field goals and kicking kickoffs," he said. "That's what I get paid to do. Now it's just a matter of being able to go out there and have fun, relax and enjoy."

Last season, Gould made 31-of-36 fields and finished with 126 points. The year before, he was named to the Pro Bowl and helped lead the Bears to the Super Bowl by finishing second in the NFL in scoring with 143 points.

Gould has hit five game-winning field goals in his career, including a 49-yarder field in overtime in a NFC divisional playoff game at Seattle on January 14, 2007.

He is one of only seven kickers in NFL history with consecutive seasons of 125 points or more.
