Jets sign QB Ainge, OL DeVan

Jul 18, 2008 - 1:08 AM HEMPSTEAD, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Jets signed quarterback Erik Ainge and offensive lineman Kyle DeVan on Thursday.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Ainge, the Jets' fifth-round pick - 162nd overall - in the 2008 draft, played in 46 games with 35 starts for the University of Tennessee, ranking third in its history in pass completions (516), pass attempts (854) and touchdown passes (51). The 22-year-old completed 733-of-1,210 passes (60.6 percent) for 8,700 yards, 72 touchdowns and 35 interceptions in four seasons.

DeVan, 23, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent on May 1 with the Washington Redskins. He appeared in 50 career games with 38 consecutive starts while at Oregon State. In 2007, DeVan started in all 13 contests as a senior and helped the Beavers average 371.6 yards per game and allow only three quarterback sacks and five quarterback hurries on 438 pass plays.
